Milton Pullen

In the spring of 2010 Professor Milton Pullen retired as the Director of Choirs at Pepperdine University, Malibu, California. Pullen joined the Pepperdine University faculty in 1995 and is currently on a one year sabbatical. He was born and reared in Texas, earning his music degrees in voice and conducting from Texas A& I University, Kingsville, and the University of Houston. Before moving to Pepperdine, Professor Pullen directed award-winning high school programs in Texas for 24 years, teaching for the majority of those years in the Clear Creek Independent School District. He also served on the faculty of Abilene Christian University for six years as Associate Professor of Music and Director of Choral Activities. His choral groups have performed for the Texas Music Educators Conventions, the California Music Educators Convention and the National Convention of the American Choral Directors Association. He has also served as a judge and clinician for numerous high school choirs and honor choirs over his forty- five year career in music education. Pullen is also a former State Vocal Chairman and Past-President of the Texas Music Educators Association.

In the fall of 2005 Pullen was awarded the Howard A. White Excellence in Teaching Award, Pepperdine University. In the summer of 2010 he was presented with the Texas Choirmaster Award, the highest honor given by the Texas Choral Directors Association. Since the award’ s inception in 1978, only ten other recipients have received this award.
